Geographic tongue

geo tongue

Here's a rotoscope of my weird tongue. Before you say, "Ewww! Have you sought medical attention for it?"...there is no "cure" because it is not a disease. It's called a Geographic tongue, which occurs in only 2% of the population. My tongue has been like this since birth. It resembles paisley wallpaper, white paisleys on a pink background. Mine is the most pronounced I've ever seen, and I've only seen pictures, but never ran into anyone else with one. When I was in the USMC, a Navy dentist asked to take a picture of it, as he had never actually seen one, other than in medical pictures. I have read that it can appear and reappear, but mine has always more or less stayed the same. The paisleys turn bright white when I am sick, which is a rare occasion- whiter than the above roto. I experience a bit more sensitivity with acidic foods, particularly citrus fruits, pineapple and pecans or walnuts, which feels like the sensation of biting your tongue and sucking on a lemon, but nothing so intolerable as to change my diet. I'd like to think it is a map of the cosmos, or a map of where Atlantis can be located- ha! Anyway, it makes for an interesting conversation piece...or I can repel people with it- ha!
