My mother and aunts playing Scrabble

Scrabble With My Great Aunts/Mamaw

My mother (the brunette) and my Aunt Jane (sitting next to Mom) and Aunt Virginia sitting across from them, at Aunt Jane's house, doing the traditional family thing- Scrabble! Funny, because my Aunt Jane (my fave- she's brilliant) brings up Jean Arp, the Dadaist/ Surrealist artist, and my Aunt Virginia who IS an artist thought she was talking about AARP (American Assoc. of Retired Persons)! Aunt Virginia's grandson put the video on YouTube. I was intimidated by playing Scrabble with them as a kid and my grandmother was even more intimidating, getting out the timer if you took too long to come up with a word! I now play Scrabble with James...without a timer!

The graceful reserved arm action where Aunt Jane wishes to nearly slap your mother is like a Tai Chi movement… and I like the vocal “A hundred and eighty points for Alice” … . and the background voice “Tha-at’s a ‘G-ee’ ” (Is that the grandson?). Brill!

I believe that was Ian, my Aunt Jane's grandson, who video recorded it there, but Tyler, Aunt Virginia's grandson put it on YouTube. They are a peculiar bunch, aren't they? James and I have played Scrabble the last two nights (:
